Vitamins

What are Vitamins?

Vitamins are microscopic compounds required by the bod in small amounts for normal growth and metabolism. They are found in various foods and assist with various biochemical reactions within the body as well as maintaining general health and well-being.

Where do they come from?

With the exception of vitamin D and K, which are produced within the body, all vitamins must be supplied through a balanced diet in order to supply our body with the various vitamins that are required for normal healthy functioning. Vitamin D is produced in the skin durning exposure to sunlight and vitamin K is produced in the intestines.

How do they work?

Each vitamin has a different set of functions within the body and is classified as either fat-soluble or water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in different places within the body (A, D, K and E) and are used and broken down as the body requires. In contrast, water soluble vitamins cannot be stored within the body for very long and therefore must be supplied to the body through diet regularly.
